ANHC to Begin Offering Vasectomies
Considering a vasectomy? Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center will be offering vasectomies beginning in August 2023. Many forms of insurance cover vasectomies, and ANHC’s sliding fee discount may also be applied.
What is a vasectomy? A vasectomy is a simple surgical procedure designed to prevent pregnancy. The small tubes (vas deferens) that carry sperm are cut or blocked off so sperm can’t leave the body. Vasectomies are done using local anesthesia and recovery time is quick.
Important notes:
Vasectomies are almost 100% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Vasectomies do not provide protection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Vasectomies are considered a permanent form of birth control. Although vasectomy reversals may be possible, there are no guarantees.
If you are considering a vasectomy or simply want more information, please talk to your provider. They would be happy to answer any questions you have.
